Rienzi and Rosedown Canal Maintenance Projects Completed Ahead of Schedule
The NLLD has substantially completed the Rienzi Canal and Rosedown Canal Maintenance Projects in Thibodaux ahead of schedule.

The Rienzi Canal project segment involved the clearing and removal of silt in the canal from LA Highway 308 north approximately 2,000 feet to Ashland Drive.  The Rosedown Canal segment included clearing and silt removal east of Canal Boulevard from Melrose Street north approximately 3,700 feet to the Thibodaux Family Church.

The project contractor was Byron E. Talbot and engineering was performed by Duplantis Design Group.

The Rienzi and Rosedown Canal dredging projects will improve drainage in these residential areas of Thibodaux.

NLLD Seeks State Construction Funds

for Bayou Blue – Hollywood Backwater

Flood Protection

The NLLD has submitted a capital outlay request in the FY 2015 – 2016 state budget process for construction of levees and a deployable canal closure structure along Hollywood Canal in Bayou Blue.

This large project will protect nearly 7,000 residents, 1,800 homes and numerous businesses in the Bayou Blue area by preventing high storm-water elevations in the Hollywood Canal from backing into the subdivisions on the Lafourche side of LA Highway 316.

The Bayou Blue-Hollywood Backwater flood protection project was selected for this year’s capital outlay request because of its high ranking in the District’s NOPET evaluation tool, and is an example of the District’s commitment to secure funds wherever possible to provide flood protection to our community. We will be working closely with our legislative delegation over the next six months to get this capital outlay request funded.
