NLLD Continues Work to Improve Levee Protection in Lockport to Larose Project Area
NLLD Executive Director Dwayne Bourgeois gave an update on the ongoing project to strengthen levee protection for residents and businesses in the Lockport to Larose project area during public presentations held October 8 and 9 in Lockport and Larose.
The Lockport-to-Larose Project includes major maintenance and re-sectioning of the levees from Lockport to Larose along the
40 Arpent Canal and Bayou L’ Bleau.

Levee Reaches C1, C2 & C3 have been substantially completed in the
Lockport to Larose Project Area.

Ultimately, this project could provide a levee with a height of 7.5 feet above sea level throughout its length. Levee improvements have been substantially completed from just east of the Edna Pump Station to the Parr Pump Station (Reaches C1, C2 & C3).

The proposed next phase of the project (Reaches C4, C5, and D1) would include rebuilding the levee along its current alignment starting from a half of a mile below the Valentine Bridge to a quarter of a mile above the lift bridge in Larose. To make the rebuilt levee stable, the existing reservoir canal would be completely filled and become part of the levee berm.  The goal is to achieve a +7.5-foot finished levee elevation with minimal impact to landowners.

Representatives from the NLLD will be contacting impacted landowners to discuss the project in more details and the NLLD Board of Commissioners will consider feedback before any decision to advance this project is made.

The full presentation from the October 8 and 9 informational meetings can be viewed here.
